Last Saturday, November 2nd, JPD Community Space hosted two interesting events with Dominican artists: the Fashion Designer Jose Duran and the poet Juan Matos.
Jose Duran is a Fashion Designer known for defying the rules of cutting-edge style. He holds a Master in International Business from Taipei University of Technology (Taiwan) and brought to JPD a conversation about “Consumer behavior on sustainable fashion” . There was also a sample sale of his previous collections, and part of the proceedings will be donated to an organization for environmental protection. For more information about his work, please go to joseduran.net
The writer Juan Matos came to JPD to present his most recent book “Azucar, cayo y puerto: la epopeya del Batey Central Barahona” . In “Sugar, cape and port”, the Dominican poet denounces segregation, classism and racial prejudice within the community that saw him grow up. He sings in profound, beautifully crafted verses, to the countryman, to the Bateyero, who cut the sugarcane from sunup to sundown, to the Haitians and Dominicans alike, who shared the hard labor, the poverty and the seclusion of the well-off residents. His book is available in English and Spanish .
Thank you for supporting these and others initiatives promoted by JPD Foundation!
