A Dominican story that made history in the United States.

In 2016, Adriano Espaillat became the first Dominican-American and the first formerly undocumented immigrant elected to the U.S. Congress, marking a historic milestone for the Dominican-American community.

Born in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic, and raised in New York City, Espaillat began his public service journey through community organizing. Before entering elected office, he worked with communities in Northern Manhattan, organizing tenants, advocating for bilingual education, and supporting local families. His journey is also part of the larger story of the Dominican diaspora and its contributions to American life.

The Juan Pablo Duarte Foundation, in collaboration with El Nuevo Diario Films, is delighted to invite the community to a special screening of “Adriano Espaillat: Everybody’s Congressman,” a documentary written and directed by Juan Delancer.
